A Foresters Market to promote the National Forest is being planned for Ashby in October.
The proposal is to set up 10 to 15 stands in Brook Street on October 17.
Ashby de la Zouch Town Council's Events & Entertainment Committee discussed the plans at their recent meeting.
And it was felt that the market fits in with Ashby wanting to become a Forest Town.
The council is working with the National Forest to make the town better known when it comes to attracting visitors to the region Council to focus on establishing Ashby as a Forest Town.
Town centre manager Stuart Benson told the committee that the event will be put out to tender.
He said: "This alines with out plans to make Ashby a Forest Town, so it sits in quite nicely.
The proposal is that the event takes place on the 17th October this year, providing safety measures are adhered to, they had set out 30 stalls.
"But after talks, we don't think 30 stalls will fit in Brook Street and have social distancing
"That'll be cut to 10-15 stalls. It'll be called a National Forest market
"And the idea is that there will be things that are within the National Forest such as firewood, charcoal, chopping boards, indoor and outdoor furniture, reused and upcycling materials, firepits, wooden decorations, plus food and drink stalls such as Tollgate Brewery who has its base in the National Forest.
"The National Forest will be putting this out to tender.
"They're looking for a market operator who will take control of it and use the National Forest branding and logo, plus have their support.
"The idea is that it gives the National Forest some much-needed exposure
"All of their events such as Timberfest will be promoted at this market."
The plan is to run it twice a year, once in October and again in the Spring.
A road closure of Brook Street has been applied for.
