Donisthorpe Community Group has raised £600 for a rainbow bench to be installed in the village to provide a 'little piece of calm'.

The idea came from Donisthorpe resident Peter Stewart Gale and a Just Giving Page was set up with the aim of raising £550 towards the bench.

But £600 has been donated with Donisthorpe Community Group, Donisthorpe Neighbourhood Watch and The Orchard Allotment Society are working collaboratively to deliver it.

Peter explained: "Along with monies raised to purchase one bench, an anonymous Donisthorpe villager will also donate one.

"The allotments will supply two troughs, plant and maintain them. The Park Ranger Chris Conway is also on board as is The Parish Council.

"It will be on Church Street, Donisthorpe, outside the DC gates which is where the old railway line, now trail crosses - so it's an ideal place for villagers and visitors to chill, reflect and enjoy a 'Pause for Thought'"

After such a difficult year due to the pandemic, the idea was approved to create an area to remember all those affected by COVID-19 pandemic and pay tribute to all our NHS and Key Workers.
