Police discovered a 'large amount' of drugs and cash' as a result of a routine traffic stop in Measham on Saturday night.

North West Leicestershire Police have posted photographs of the find and say the suspect has been questioned about the haul.

After the initial find, a search was carried out at their home where 'more cash and cannabis' was recovered.

A message on their Facebook page reads: "Last night PC White was patrolling his beat in Measham, and what seemed like an ordinary traffic stop resulted in a significant stop and search.

"A large amount of drugs and cash recovered, and someone with a lot of questions to answer.

"PC Gregory and SPC Wheeldon-Jones assisted with a search of the suspect's property, recovering even more cannabis and cash. The investigation is ongoing."

Police have highlighted the contribution of a Special Police Constable in the incident.

They have added: "SPC Wheeldon-Jones, who volunteers her spare time to police, said: 'This is why I give up my free time. It's certainly different from my day job and I'm proud to have seized the drugs before they were sold on the streets.'"

The posts also says: "Would you like to make a difference like the one SPC Wheeldon Jones has made?

"We welcome applications from individuals from all backgrounds and encourage anyone who has considered a career in policing to submit an application form."
