Why this Ashby shop front came to the attention of local town councillors

By Graham Hill 30th Oct 2021

A new shop front that used to belong to Shellbrooks Toys has been praised by Ashby councillors for its design features.

The site was once the 'Bobby White's' store, which was next door to the Shoulder of Mutton pub for decades.

Now it has been taken over by a will writing company.

But when an application went before Ashby de la Zouch Town Council's planning committee earlier this month for the display of one, non-illuminated signage, councillors were full of praise for the way the new business has designed its frontage.

Not only did they raise no objections, the committee agreed to write to the developers to congratulate them on the quality of workmanship and visual appearance of renovated building.

Cllr Geraint Jones said: "I think the work that has been done to this shop has been excellent.

"We should write to them and congratulate them on behalf of the town council planning committee."

Cllr John Coxon added: "This really is a wonderful restoration. You can stand outside and see the quality."
