A police helicopter was called out over the Measham area on Thursday evening due to fears for the safety of a man.

Police carried out a search lasting almost 75 minutes after concerns were raised for the man's welfare.

The presence of the helicopter alerted a number of local residents.

But the man was located in the Oakthorpe area - around a mile from Measham.

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said on Friday: "Officers were called to the area of Measham at 8.17pm yesterday (Thursday) following concern for the welfare of a man.

"Officers carried out searches in the area, with assistance of the police helicopter.

"The man was found safe in the Oakthorpe area at around 9.30pm."
