Ashby is hosting two major outdoor events this weekend in different parts of the town.

Sunday sees the return of the Ashby Sport Fun Day - a FREE event at the Bath Grounds which unites the area's sports clubs.

After a successful launch 12 months ago, this year's event promises to be even better.

The day starts at 10am and you can come and 'have a go' at a new sport.

Ashby's sports clubs will be there and encouraging you to participate with a view to getting more people to get involved in recreation.

This year, a fun itinerary has been lined up, including martial arts demonstrations in the new Demonstration Showcase Area, croquet competition with Andrew Bridgen MP, a live boxing fight and even a wellie wanging competition!

Clubs will also have a selection of prizes, goodies, offers and giveaways on the day.

Food and refreshments will be available around the event as well as a fully licensed bar at Ashby Hastings Cricket Club.

There is no charge to the public for this event, it is brought free of charge by the volunteers at Ashby Sport and the member sports clubs, delivered in partnership with Ashby de la Zouch Town Council.

Radar Event Services will be the compare for the day - and the event is sponsored by The Monkey Tree in Ashby.

This event was meant to happen two years ago - but the pandemic meant it could not happen.

Now the organisers are back and have arranged three events for this summer - with two more planned for July and August.
