When Lauren Tyler had her son Bodei two and a half years ago, she noticed a lack of spaces for parents of young children that felt clean, safe and social.

Lauren opened B's House play café in Ashby town centre on 29 November 2025, as a much needed community space for parents and caregivers, as well as a beautifully curated space with proper coffee and a great selection of sweet treats.

Situated at 2 Bath Street at the bottom of Ashby's Market Street, the central location for B's House is a definite draw for both Ashby residents and those visiting from further afield.

Taking the plunge from being self-employed doing nails to opening her own café was a 'total career change,' said Lauren.

'I'd just had a baby and was in a really weird stage in life.'

Going out and about with Brodei locally, she found a real gap in the market for places to take a small child, especially those that feel safe and clean for babies and toddlers.

This is where the concept for B's House was born.

Names after her son Brodei, Lauren wanted to create a safe and welcoming 'duel-concept space,' combining lively and stimulated play areas for children with a beautifully curated café space.

'Becoming a mum, you just know what other mums want and need,' said Lauren, explaining that, as well as a great spot to let the little ones burn off some steam, B's House is also about building a community.

Parenthood can be a very stressful and isolating time and just having the option to visit a nice place and speak to people in the same situation as you can make a huge difference.

When visitors enter B's House, they are met with a clean, bright space with a counter filled with delicious sweet and savoury treats, as well as a large, artisan coffee machine, varied drinks menu and warm, friendly staff.

What feels like a very nice café upon entry reveals itself to be, charming and versatile play area, tucked safely behind a secure door to give parents of curious toddlers' peace of mind.

Living just outside Ashby, Lauren knows the town well. She knew it would be a good spot for the first B's House café in an ideal central location and with a growing population of young families moving into newer estates in the town.

Katie, a new mum who has just moved into Ashby, is a regular at B's House with her daughter Millie: 'I go with my three-month-old, we haven't tried the soft-play yet, but I can't wait until she's big enough to enjoy that.

'We've already enquired about birthday parties for when she's one! The café is gorgeous, coffee is incredible and the staff are all so friendly and welcoming.'

The renovation of the café took just 9 weeks from start to finish, with lots of hard work to get doors open before Christmas. The original arches and large windows have been kept inside, with plenty of additional space for pram parking, baby changing facilities and a catch up over a coffee and slice of cake.

At the moment, the cafe has lots of baked treats and will soon be releasing more food options (Photo: Grace Kennington)

Very soon, they will be launching a menu of breakfast and light bites, including smashed avocado on toast and granola bowls.

In the future, Lauren hopes to open in another location, growing B's House in the area to be able to give more parents a safe and relaxing place to go with their children.

She has also recently launched running birthday parties in the space on Sundays.
