'Get on with your job' says Amanda Hack MP, following two Leicestershire County Councillors posting in support of ICE.

Amanda Hack, MP for North West Leicestershire, has published a statement in response to the two councillors, slamming the use of their platform for 'dividing our community spreading hate.'

The councillor for Whitwick, Joseph Boam and for Valley, Michael Squires, both Reform UK, have shared posts on X in support of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In a statement published by Amanda Hack regarding these tweets, she said: 'Following the recent social media posts from two Reform county councillors representing part of North West Leicestershire, I have no option but to respond.

'The events in recent weeks of ICE officers in the US have been shocking. To see the county councillor representing Whitwick saying he stands with 'ICE' and for the County Councillor representing Valley to be patting him on the back and congratulating ICE for 'their heroic work saving the United States of America' is outrageous.

'It would be great if our county councillors could get on with the job and use the additional resources provided by Government to improve local services rather than trying to divide our community [and] spreading hate.

'I will be writing to the Leader of the County Council and the Chief Executive about this matter.'

Furthermore, the Leicestershire Conservative Group has also spoken out against councillors Boam and Squires posts.

In a statement published on 28 January, it said: 'At the scrutiny committee today at Leicestershire County Council, our Group Leader and Chair of the Commission made an urgent statement regarding the recent abhorrent social media posts by two members of this council.

'I have been contacted by various elected members, residents and staff who are very upset about these posts.

'While the Scrutiny Committee does not determine individual conduct issues [...] the Commission has a duty of care to staff and residents to ensure the highest standards of moral and professional conduct.

'Therefore, it is in our remit to consider the wider implications for governance, public confidence, and the standards expected of those holding positions of responsibility within this authority.'

Cllr Joseph Boam and Cllr Michael Squires were approached for comment.

Leader of Leicestershire County Council Dan Harrison was also contacted to give a response.
