VIDEO: The way we were - last year's NHS doorstep tributes in Market Street

Ashby is slowly beginning to return to some kind of normal after over a year of lockdown during the Covid pandemic.

Today, Market Street is bedecked with flags to mark St George's Day.

But, a year ago, it was a different story and we've raided our archives to feature the Ashby Nub News video from April 2020.

The town is virtually deserted apart from a few cars.

However, at 8pm each Thursday, the NHS doorstep tribute begins as people come to the pavements to clap and bang whatever kitchen implement they can lay their hands on.

It is a little piece of history - perhaps unwanted - but when lockdown came it was a case of stay at home.

But for this one moment each week, people had the chance to step outside and actually speak to people instead of being stuck indoors.

What a difference a year makes!
