VIDEO: See What This Former Hotel And Restaurant in Ashby Looks Like Inside Now - With New Development Almost Complete

By Graham Hill 3rd Nov 2020

The former Fallen Knight pub, hotel and restaurant in Ashby has been converted into high quality apartments and houses - which have now been put on the market by estate agents Whitehead's.

And Ashby Nub News was invited to take a sneak peek around the development which is expected to be completed in the new year.

You can take a virtual tour around one of the apartments and see the work that has been carried out by builders Lychgate Homes by clicking on the video above.

Much of the interest is centred around the fact that the building was the Fallen Knight which is remembered fondly in the town.

In all, there will be three town houses and eight apartments.

The building was designed by Ashby based architects David Granger Design Ltd and prices range from £275,000 to £295,000 for the apartments, and £425,000 for the one house that is available at the moment.

The apartments will have a Knights Mews address, while the houses are on Kilwardby Street.

For example, 6 Knights Mews Kilwardby Street Ashby-de-la-Zouch LE65 2FQ £275,000 is described by Whitehead's as: "A stunning, high specification, 2 double bedroom luxury apartment of 867 sq. ft by Lychgate Homes, wonderfully positioned in the heart of Ashby town centre, in this exciting conversion of the former Fallen Knight Hotel into 11 luxury town houses and apartments. The first phase has now been released."

And 18, Kilwardby Street is priced at £425,000 and is described as: 'A stunning, high specification, 4 bedroom 3 storey mews town house of 1521 sq. ft".

Sarah Parsons, of Whitehead's - which is based in Pass's Courtyard, off Market Street, says the development will also have garden space.

She told Ashby Nub News: "There'll be a roof garden for the houses and a communal one for the apartments.

"We've had a lot of enquiries based on the nostalgia of people who used to come here when it was the Fallen Knight and had family occasions there.

"That's why we've had a lot of interest. We showed one lady around who had lots of fond memories of the Fallen Knight. And we even had an enquiry from someone who used to own it years ago."

Whitehead's provide more details about the development on its website and says: "We are delighted to announce the first phase release of the exciting Knights Mews development by Lychgate Homes, working in tandem with David Granger Architectural Design Ltd of Ashby, and the careful conversion and renovation of one of Ashby's landmark buildings, the former Grade 2 listed Fallen Knight Hotel and Restaurant.

"Conveniently positioned in the heart of Ashby town centre, the essential character of this distinguished Grade 2 listed building has been preserved and enhanced, while the generous scale and proportions of the interiors offer a selection of 11 bespoke homes, rich in both living space and natural light

"As with all Lychgate properties, this apartment is impeccably and thoughtfully designed to an exceptionally high standard, offering the best in modern day living, with an abundance of space throughout.

"The apartment offers an open plan living lounge and kitchen with a bespoke fitted kitchen with granite worktops by Charnwood Kitchens.

"There are integrated appliances, including hob with extractor, cooker, fridge-freezer and dishwasher, fitted luxury bathroom, timber panelled doors and fitted throughout with all floor coverings. Complete with an efficient gas fired central heating system and generous electrical installations.

"Externally there is allocated parking for one vehicle and access to a communal garden area.

"You really could not get closer to the hustle and bustle of the town centre, with everything literally on your doorstep! The array of shops, boutiques, coffee houses, restaurants and pubs ensure there is always something to do, with the library, Hood Park leisure centre and Ashby Castle providing interesting leisure pursuits."
