Update on parking at former Ashby Co-Op
By Grace Kennington 2nd Mar 2026
Since the closure of Ashby's big Co-Op on Derby Road in 2025, there has been a lot of local confusion about the car park, whether it is still open, whether it will stay open and why so many people are getting parking tickets.
There has been an update to parking rules in the car park on Kilwardby Street that has caught out some local people.
Although previously parking was free for one hour, allowing Co-Op shoppers to use the car park without paying, the free one hour is no longer in place.
Now, it costs:
- £1 for up to two hours,
- £2 for up to four hours,
- £3 for up to six hours,
- £4 for up to eight hours,
- £6 for up to 12 hours,
- £12 for up to 24 hours
There has also been uncertainty over whether the car park will remain open.
At the moment, the building that used to be the Co-Op is on the market with Carter Jonas for almost £19,000 per month or £225,000 per year.
Included in the listing is is parking for 122 cars, with the new renters benefitting from the parking charge.
As the future of the building is still up in the air, there is no clear answers as of yet about what will happen to the car park.
However, the listing details suggest if a new business moves in, the car park will remain open.
