The deadline for Ashby area voters to ensure they have the correct ID is fast approaching.
Under new Government rules, every voter most produce photographic ID if they want to cast their ballot in the North West Leicestershire local elections on Thursday, May 4.
Photo ID including passports, driving licences, Blue Badges, some concessionary travel cards and certain national identity cards can be used.
But those without an accepted form of identification can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate.
The deadline for residents to apply for the certificate is tomorrow (Tuesday, April 25) at 5pm.
Voters will not be able to enter a polling station without valid ID.
Residents can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate either online from the Government website, or by filling in an application form and giving it to the district council.
They will need to provide a photo and their national insurance details.
The Electoral Commission website also has guidance for groups who might have difficulty producing the right photo ID, such as gypsies and travellers, older people, homeless people, transgender and non-binary people, to help ensure they are able to vote.
The Government has said it is bringing in the new photo ID rules across the UK as a way to tackle electoral fraud.
The rules will also be applied to any UK general elections taking place from October 2023.
