Ashby de la Zouch Town Council has given its annual Youth Award to three local youngsters.

Warren Smith, James Finch and Kimberley Aucott were all recognised by the council at last week's Annual Town meeting.

They were all recipients of the 2022 award - Warren was not able to attend on the evening, but will be presented with his award at a later date.

The Town Council's Annual Report said: "Warren and James were members of Rocksolid, an Ashby Youth for Christ activities-based club for young people in school years 7-9.

"They were then offered the opportunity to become apprentices, servants of their younger peers.

"They accepted this invitation and since have been working together to provide for the group sort of fun they enjoyed when they themselves were members. They are now in school year 11.

"Practically, their service has involved weekly team debriefs, planning and preparation meetings After school on Wednesdays, and preparation for the club during the week and before it starts on a Friday evening.

"Their punctuality, industry and reliability has been praiseworthy. It has been appreciated by both their adult partners in service and the young people they serve.

"As well as their time, they have given their resourcefulness in conceiving and creating activities for the club.

Kimberley Aucott has volunteered with Ashby food bank for the past three years and has only recently left to take up an apprenticeship in hairdressing.

"Her volunteering with initially came about as part of her work experience with college, but she also attended, regularly, outside of term times, continued once the course was completed and has been an integral part of the volunteer team.

"She also volunteers as a Young Leader with Heather Rainbows and Brownies, and so her heart for giving her time to benefit others is clear, and she is a worthy winner of the Town Council Youth Award for 2022."
