Ashby teenager is charged with possession of a machete after weapon found in BMW during search by Lincolnshire Police

An Ashby teenager has been charged by Lincolnshire Police after a machete was found in a car after he was stopped in the early hours of Monday morning.

Joseph Donoghue, 18, of Meredith Road, Ashby, was charged with possession of the weapon, as well as two other driving offences.

He is due to appear in court at a later date.

The vehicle was stopped - and then searched - in Bridge End Road in Grantham.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: "A silver BMW was stopped in the early hours of Monday 10 April on Bridge End Road in Grantham.

"The vehicle was searched and a machete was found.

"An 18-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, as well as driving offences.

"Joseph Donoghue of Meredith Road, Ashby De La Zouch in Leicestershire has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, using a vehicle on a road/public place without third party insurance and driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

"He has been released on bail and will appear in court at a later date."
