The Milking Parlour is staging its annual three-day Cider and Sausage Festival.

Over Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the event takes place at Southwood House Farm, Staunton Lane in Calke.

The Festival promises BBQ and Pizza Sausage Special with the kitchen open from 12-8pm Friday and Saturday, and 12-5pm on Sunday.

There will be live music, Morris Dancers, and more in the heart of the South Derbyshire countryside.

On Saturday, it is the 81st Packington Village Show.

Once again, it will be time to start measuring your runner beans, arranging your asters and baking your best bread for this year's show which will be held at Packington Memorial Hall.

Organisers say it is always good to see many familiar faces as well as lots of new ones, and the team look forward to welcoming as many of you as possible.

Measham Library is holding a celebration to mark its eighth birthday on Sunday.

The community venue's special event will be held from 11am until 3pm.

There are activities for the children, a cake stall with delicious homemade cakes, a tombola and raffle.

There is live music in Ashby this weekend - with The White Hart hosting Part Time Heroes on Saturday night.

Brew will have its regular Lazy Sunday Afternoon session with Dorothy Ella is making a return this week.

Next Thursday (September 12) there is a charity Quiz Night at The Lyric Rooms.

It will support Ashby Netball Club's world record attempt happening in February - in aid of Kids Village.

Doors open at 6.30pm with hot food available to purchase on the evening. There will be teams of a maximum of four people.

Tonight (Thursday, Sept 5), The Lyric Rooms has a night of comedy.

Funhouse Comedy Club brings another line-up of top comedians to the Lyric Rooms, Ashby-de-la-Zouch on Thursday September 5th.

Topping the bill is the compelling and frank comedian and writer, Daliso Chaponda who came third in 'Britain's Got Talent' in 2017 - and then landed himself his own stand-up comedy show on BBC Radio 4.

Hailing from Malawi, where his father is a government minister, he started his comedy career in Canada with the much-admired one-man show 'Feed This Black Man'.

With his ability to talk about anything from politics and religion to romance, he amuses his audiences with his distinctive accent and unique outlook on the world.
