Award-winning Ashby netball club champions walking netball for all ages and abilities

Ashby-de-la-Zouch's award-winning Ashby Netball Club is continuing to break down barriers in sport through its hugely popular Walking Netball sessions, a welcoming, fun and inclusive way for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the game.
Taking place weekly at Granville School, the sessions have quickly become a highlight in many local calendars, bringing together players who want to improve fitness, regain confidence after injury, or simply enjoy being active in a supportive, social environment.
Walking Netball adapts the traditional game by removing running and high-impact movement, making it accessible while still providing all the teamwork, skill and enjoyment netball is famous for.
The slower pace makes it ideal for people returning to exercise, those managing injuries or joint concerns, or anyone looking for a gentler way to stay active.
Club Chair Carla Garey says the sessions perfectly reflect the club's ethos: "Ashby Netball Club is proud to be an award-winning club that truly caters for everyone.
"From performance players competing regionally right through to beginners and Walking Netball, we want people of every age and ability to feel they belong here."
Walking Netball has proven particularly beneficial for those recovering from injury or surgery, helping participants rebuild strength, mobility and confidence in a safe, supportive setting.
Players regularly report improvements in balance, coordination and overall fitness, while enjoying the huge mental wellbeing boost that comes from being part of a team.
The sessions attract a wonderfully varied mix of participants, from former players returning to the sport after decades away, to people trying netball for the very first time, and others simply looking for a friendly way to stay active and social.
Above all, the sessions are known for their laughter and encouragement, with new friendships forming every week.
Sessions run every Thursday from 6.00–7.00pm at Granville School, Ashby.
No experience is required, equipment is provided, and newcomers are always warmly welcomed.
For anyone looking to build strength, support rehabilitation, meet new people or rediscover a love of sport, Ashby Netball Club's Walking Netball sessions are proving that netball really can be for everyone, at every stage of life.
