Ashby Netball Club are offering members of the public a chance to become a World Record holder next year.

Following the club's successful bid to get into the record books 18 months ago, they are planning an even more testing target this time.

In February of last year, the club broke a Guinness World Record for the most netball goals scored in 24 hours, 28,745 - and raised £23,000 for the Kids Village Charity as a result.

Now they want to bring their latest attempt to Ashby, and get other people involved as well.

This time the club want to break the record for the longest netball marathon of 75 hours straight - and they have set a fundraising target of £30,000.

But as that means around 150 players taking part - organisers are offering members of the public a chance to be part of the record attempt, as long as they can raise £100 towards the charity.

Ashby Netball Club's Carla Garey is one of the organisers - and she told Ashby Nub News: "It was a phenomenal effort last time and we wanted to do something similar again.

"But then we thought: 'How can we actually make it even harder this time.

"Last time we doubled the record, so we wanted to make this one really challenging."

The event is set to take place on February 20-23 at Ivanhoe School in Ashby - and the idea is to invite as many people along as possible to witness it, and even be a part of it.

Carla added: "We wanted to be more community-based and be where we live so that there's more involvement.

"The school is one of our headline sponsors, so they're giving us the facilities for free.

Ashby's players broke their first World Record 18 months ago

"A lot of the players will have to do five or six hours, some will only do one, but it will be more difficult than last time.

"Around 60 Ashby members have already signed up to take part, then individuals from other clubs will take part.

"But we also expect others to sign up - a corporate company or a local football team could take part.

"Alongside that, people can come and watch and support. Plus we hope local councillors and the Mayor will back us.

"But anyone who participates will be a world record holder if we achieve this.

"They'll be able to say to anyone at any time that they broke a world record - and we think that'll have a big appeal.

"All we ask is that they raise a minimum of £100 to take part.

"Between October and February, we hope that people will raise more than £100 - but the aim is for 100 people to raise £10,000 between them."
