An Ashby father and son are embarking on the adventure of a lifetime, cycling 600 kilometres across Southeast Asia to raise vital funds for children and families in need.

Stacey and Sam Garey will begin their challenge, cycling from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam through the Mekong Delta and into Cambodia, finishing at the iconic Angkor Wat temples after nearly two weeks on the road.

Their journey will see them tackle intense heat, long distances, rural tracks and busy roads, often cycling more than 50 kilometres a day. Temperatures regularly reach above 30°C, and large sections of the route offer little shade, making stamina and determination essential.

But for Stacey and Sam, this challenge is about far more than the physical test.

They are raising funds for Kids' Village Charity, which is building the UK's first holiday village dedicated to providing respite breaks for children with critical illnesses and their families, giving them precious time together away from hospitals and treatment routines.

Wife and mum Carla, who runs local business Saffron Catering, says: "We're incredibly proud of them both. There will be sore legs, early mornings and moments where they'll wonder why they signed up, but knowing they're helping families who are going through the toughest times makes every mile worth it."

Their route will take them through villages, rice fields, floating markets and temples, before finally reaching Angkor Wat, one of the world's most famous landmarks.

Supporters across Ashby are already rallying behind the pair, and the family hopes their journey will inspire others to get involved or support the cause.

Stacey summed it up simply: "If spending a couple of tough weeks on a bike helps families get precious time together, then it's absolutely worth it."
