Following the closure of Manhattans in Ashby, the independent local operators of the venue have decided to take the building back to its roots, returning it to its former glory as a historic public house, previously called the Hole in the Wall.

This time, however, it will have a unique twist.

The space will reopen as a completely new business, becoming The Fitzgerald – Ashby's first Irish pub.

Preparations have already begun since Manhattans closed after New Years. The space has already been completely gutted, removing all remnants of the previous business before it undergoes a total refurbishment.

A spokesperson close to the project said: 'We're incredibly excited to bring this new concept to Ashby and can't wait for you all to see it.

'We're working closely with interior designers to transform the venue from a nightclub into a welcoming, community-focused Irish pub.'

'Our goal is to open the doors before summer, with excitement already building ahead of the World Cup and the addition of interactive sports in our back room.'

The focus of The Fitzgerald will be 'good pints, live sport and 'good craic' with a real emphasis on the bar becoming a social space where local people can enjoy a relaxed and comfortable environment.

Key features of the bar will include lots of space to watch sports, including boxing, football and rugby, along with interactive darts and pool tables.

Once opened, they also plan to have live music and entertainment, giving guests a lively and vibrant new space to hang out.

There are also plans to launch exciting new concepts that Ashby hasn't seen before.

Along with proudly serving an excellent selection of beer, Fitzgerald's will also have a purpose-built kitchen.

The owners hope the new bar will become a local community hub, creating a relaxed and welcoming environment to sports-fans, Ashby residents and anyone that loves a good pint of Guinness.

The Fitzgerald will hopefully be ready to welcome visitors by the end of May.

Ashby Nub News is working closely with the bar's owners to give updates on the official opening and what the people of Ashby can look forward to.
