The company responsible for a spelling mistake warning of road closures ahead of the Ashby Statutes has been told to correct the error.

Yellow signs appeared in Market Street and Brook Street this week ahead of the Statutes which return to the town on September 16.

But all of them display the same mistake about the forthcoming fairground event which will see Ashby town centre closed to traffic over a six day spell - as it is every year,

The signs say that the Ashby STATUES are approaching, rather than the Statutes.

Residents have been quick to spot the mistake, with one Ashby Nub News reader saying: "That's a long time to stand still."

Leicestershire County Council deals with road closures.

But, on this occasion, a traffic management company Traffix has installed the signs on behalf of Pat Collins Funfairs.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire County Council said the signage is not theirs but told Ashby Nub News: "We'll inform the event organisers so they can correct their signs as soon as possible".

The Ashby Statutes returned last year after a vastly scaled down version was held during the pandemic in 2020.
