Ashby Hastings Rotary Club has joined North West Leicestershire District Council in supplying bleed kits to five town centre pubs.
After a foundation was set up in memory of Daniel Baird, who was killed following a knife incident in Nottingham, club secretary Paul Bertenshaw investigates the bleed kits which were mentioned at the time.
That led to contact with the District Council who said that it was promoting a scheme whereby five kits had been supplied to five venues in Ashby and two in Coalville.
The council suggested Ashby Hastings fund more bleed kits and members agreed to do so.
Funds to buy the kits came from donations collected from the public during various events during the year - mainly the three Ashby Rotary clubs' Santa collections each December.
The five Ashby pubs who have the kits are:
• The Bulls Head
• The Bowling Green
• Wetherspoons (The Shoulder of Mutton)
• The Lamb
• The White Hart
The managers told Ashby Hastings they were all grateful for the kits but hope they never have to use them.
North West Leicestershire District Council has already bought and circulated them along with the group training course which it organises.
It means the pubs can help deal with the consequences of knife crime and incidents where a bleed out is possible.
The main aim of making sure the kits are available now is that it is part of the Safer Euro project which has been launched during the European Football Championships.
The council wants to take steps to reduce violent crime and disorder and ensure Ashby and Coalville are safe places to visit during the tournament.
Paul Sanders, Head of Community Services at NWLDC, said: "North West Leicestershire District Council is committed to enhancing public safety and reducing violent crime.
"By partnering with the Ashby Hastings Rotary Club to provide bleed kits to local pubs, we are taking proactive steps to ensure that Ashby and Coalville remain safe and welcoming places for residents and visitors, especially during the Euros.
"These kits, along with the training we provide, are vital in potentially saving lives in emergency situations."
