Road Closure To Cause Month-Long Disruption in Ashby Town Centre

Road works are set to cause disruption for traffic in Ashby town centre for almost a month.

The main closure will be on Derby Road - between Elford Street and Market Street - starting this Wednesday and lasting until August 31.

This is to allow Fosse Civil Engineering to safely undertake gas installation works.

The various phases of the work will have inevitable knock-on effects for the rest of the town's routes.

At the end of the month, there will be additional work carried out by by Severn Trent Water which will affect Kilwardby Street until September 1.

But the latest disruption adds to road works already being carried out on Station Road, outside the Royal Hotel, and Leicester Road, by Ashby School.

Advance warning signs says work is also planned along Derby Road to the north of the town at some stage.

Ashby de la Zouch Town Council posted details of the latest road closures.

Leicestershire County Council Highways has agreed to a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order at the above location.

A closure is required on Derby Road, Ashby between Elford Street and Market Street from Wednesday 5th August to Monday 31st August to facilitate.

The works will be undertaken in 3 phases to allow access for the supermarket on Derby Road.

Phase 1:From Elford Street to the supermarket entrance – the diversion route for this phase will be via Market Street, Brook Street, The Green, Elford Street and vice versa. There will be 3 way lights in place during this closure to facilitate laying the pipe from The Callis to Derby Road

Phase 2:From the supermarket entrance to Market Street – during this phase Market Street will become one way with traffic travelling from Bath Street to Brook Street, Bath Street will also be one way, traffic travelling from South Street to Market Street. Traffic for A42(J12) and Measham will be diverted via Lower Church Street, South Street (South Street will become one way from Lower Church Street to Bath Street), traffic for Burton and Moira will be diverted via Brook Street, The Green and Elford Street

Phase 3:From the supermarket entrance to Market Street taking in part of the mini-roundabout from Derby Road. As phase 2, Market Street and Bath Street will be one way. There will be an additional closure on Kilwardby Street from Friday evening 27th August to Tuesday morning 1st September, this additional closure will also facilitate Severn Trent Water to connect a new water supply to a property on Kilwardby Street near to the mini-roundabout

Leicestershire County Council apologises for any inconvenience caused during these works.
