A PROJECT to upgrade the street lighting in Ashby town centre has now been completed, councillors were told at a recent meeting.

Last November, Leicestershire County Council said the matter of addressing the dimly-lit areas of Market Street would happen in the 2024-25 financial year.

Work began in towards the end of the summer - with an awareness it will need to be completed before the Autumn.

The scheme would replace, upgrade and improve the street lights in Market Street.

Last week's meeting of Ashby de la Zouch Town Council's Finance & Events Committee was told the the work was now complete.

Councillors heard that the new LED streetlights have now been powered up and are 'talking' to the central management system which controls them.

The County Council thanked the Town Council for its help in allowing the 'way-leaves' needed to complete the work.

When the programming is complete the lights will operate as follows:

  • Sunday to Thursday night, full power dimming to 70 per cent at 8pm, 50 per cent at 10pm coming back up to full power at 7am the following day (if required);
  • Friday and Saturday night, full power until 3am, dimming to 50 per cent, then rising to full power at 7am (if required).
