We were delighted to hold the delayed presentation of the Aldi Ashby 20 Paul Enion award last Friday.

The Aldi Ashby 20 is an annual undulating 20 mile road race around Ashby, Swepstone, Heather, Normanton le Heath and Packington.

Each March, it attracts around 1500 runners from all corners of the UK.

The Paul Enion award is normally presented to the fastest local male and female athlete.

Due to Covid-19, this year's event was virtual, therefore the winners were drawn from a list of qualifying runners.

We are pleased to say that Damon Bland and Sophie Turner were the deserved winners.

They both received 12 months' gym membership courtesy of EveryOne Active.

The Paul Enion award is in recognition of Paul who was a founder member of Ivanhoe Runners.

He also played a key role in developing the very first Ashby 20 in 1987.

Sadly Paul was killed in 1992 in an accident whilst out training on his bike to represent Great Britain, for his age group, in the World Championships Olympic distance triathlon in Canada.

It was an honour to have Paul's grandchildren representing the Enion family during the presentation.
