Police Suspect Is Rugby Tackled By Member Of The Public In Market Street After Ashby Cannabis Raid

By Graham Hill 17th Jul 2020

A member of the public rugby tackled a suspect to the floor in Ashby on Friday night as they were running from police after fleeing a cannabis grow.

North West Leicestershire Police posted message on their Facebook page as a thank-you for the assistance.

But they do not know the identity of the person who helped them catch their target during the incident in Market Street.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and placed in custody.

Police praised the have-a-go person who helped out instead of using their phone to film the chase.

PC Tom Gregory posted online and said: "Just wanted to say thank you to a member of the public who helped tackle suspect who ran from me in Market Street this evening.

"At a time when everyone seems to get their mobile phone out to record, someone's gone out of their way to rugby tackle someone to the floor.

"The person has now been arrested for cultivation of cannabis and is on their way to custody.

"So, whoever you are, thank you, I was struggling, lockdown's been tough on the old mid-section!" Stay Safe out there."

The Facebook post ended with the hashtags #inyourcommunity #comingtogether #saferneighbourhoods #CatchYourBreath
