Police are trying to trace a young man caught on CCTV "trying car doors" in Ashby and "pinching anything in there" if they are open.

PCSO Will Tipper - who spoke at Monday's (March 16) meeting of Ashby Town Council - said there had been an increased in vehicle-related thefts, with 12 such incidents had been reported in January alone.

PCSO Tipper also gave councillors an update on local policing and the beat priorities for the month, as well as sharing the local crime statistics.

In January 2026, twelve vehicle crimes were recorded in Ashby, compared to 24 in the whole of 2025.

At the meeting, when asked about this spike in vehicle by a councillor, PCOS Tipper said the crimes included car theft and theft from cars.

The Police are currently investigating a young man they have caught on CCTV in the town 'trying car doors' and, if they are unlocked, 'pinching anything in there.'

The man was described as between the ages of 18 and 30 and wearing a t-shirt to cover his face.

The PCSO warned residents to make sure there cars are locked.
