A police officer was assaulted in Market Street following an England football game.

During the same evening, a police van was also damaged as crowds gathered in Ashby following England's European Championships win against Germany.

One 21-year-old man is set to appear in court next week after being charged with a number of offences including criminal damage and resisting arrest.

But police also want to trace two men - pictured above - in connection with the events which took place last Tuesday evening after the Market Street had been closed off to traffic.

A group of people were seen to gather around a police van and goad officers following the game.

As a result, a dispersal order was put in place last weekend ahead of England's game with Ukraine, which gave them more powers in the event of more problems occuring.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: "On the evening of Tuesday 29 June it was reported that an officer was assaulted and a police van damaged on Market Street.

"PC Tara Tomson said: 'This incident happened when many people were in the area.

'We would like to hear from anyone who recognises either of these men or has any information that could help us identify them.'

"Anyone with information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 21*362502."

Following the incident, a 21-year-old man was charged with criminal damage, being drunk and disorderly in a public place and resisting arrest.

Nathan Boddington, of Marlborough Way, Ashby, is due to appear at Loughborough Magistrates' Court on July 16.
