  • The weekend dispersal order is to be repeated on Wednesday evening
  • Police acted following an assault on an officer last Tuesday after the England v Germany game
  • The move gives officers greater powers to prevent problems or deal with them when they occur

Another police dispersal order will be in place in Ashby during tomorrow's (Wednesday) Euro 2020 semi-final between England and Denmark.

It will grant police the power to move on anyone deemed to be a nuisance or who is committing a crime.

The order, which Leicestershire Police says is a proactive and preventative way of dispersing people who are likely to commit crime or disorder or behave in an antisocial manner, will be in place from 4pm tomorrow (Wednesday 7 July) until 1am on Thursday (8 July).

It is imposed under the Antisocial Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, and allows police to move on anyone aged 10 and above.

The move was put in place last weekend following trouble in Market Street after last week's England v Germany match Police officer assaulted in Ashby after England game.

The parameters for the order are as per the map and cover North Street, The Green, Elford Street, South Street, Station Road, Market Street, Derby Road, Bath Street, Brook Street, Hood Park, Bath Grounds and the inner perimeter of Ashby.

Inspector Rich Jackson, commander for the North West Leicestershire Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA), said: "This order, which was in place during England's previous game against Ukraine, allows officers to deal with antisocial behaviour and crime not only once incidents have occurred, but when they are likely to.

"It is both a protective and preventative measure and anyone who refuses to comply with an order to leave will be committing an offence and could be arrested.

"The order also allows children aged 16 or under to be taken to their home address or a place of safety. Anyone moved on under the powers can be prohibited from going back there for a certain period of time."
