An officer was assaulted on Saturday in Ashby following the report of a shop theft, leading to a car chase, two males being arrested and a stolen car seized.

According to North West Leicestershire Police, officers responded to a report of shop theft in Ashby on Saturday 6 June.

In a social media post, the force said: 'a vehicle linked to the incident was quickly located, however the suspects made off on foot.

'Following a chase, two males were detained and arrested and have since been taken into custody.

'The vehicle they were travelling in was recovered and later confirmed as stolen. Stolen property was also found inside and seized.'

The force also report that, during the arrest, an officer was assaulted. They said: 'Thankfully, she is doing well and is already back on duty today, continuing to keep the public safe.'
