Two men were taken to hospital after a hit and run incident in Measham on Saturday night - and police were looking for the van driver involved in the collision.

A helicopter search took place and police located the vehicle in Heather - but the driver has yet to be found.

The incident happened in High Street, Measham, at 9.50pm on Saturday.

Police say this was following a report of a 'non-stop collision' - and the road was closed off as a result.

Further details were released in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A spokeswoman for Leicestershire Police told Ashby Nub News: "Two pedestrians, both men, were injured during the incident and have since been taken to hospital.

"Their injuries are not believed to be serious.

"The driver of a white flatbed pick up van left the scene before emergency services arrived.

"The van has since been recovered in Heather and enquiries are continuing to locate the driver.

"The police helicopter was deployed in the area for a short time.

"The area has been cordoned off to allow officers to carry out their examination of the scene."

Leicestershire Police say anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken with officers is asked to get in touch.

Also if anyone captured the incident on their phones or on dashcams, the police want you to get in touch with them.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101, quoting incident 713 of 4 July.
