A dispersal order – which grants police the power to move on anyone deemed to be a nuisance or who is committing a crime – will be in place in Ashby this weekend.

The move comes after group of people gathered in Market Street following England's win over Germany last night (Tuesday).

And with England playing a European Championship quarter-final game on Saturday evening against Ukraine, police have tightened their measures.

A Leicestershire Police spokesman told Ashby Nub News: "The order has been put in place as a precautionary measure ahead of Saturday's game, following a number of people gathering in the town following last night's match."

The order, which is imposed under the Antisocial Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, allows police to move on anyone aged 10 and above.

It will be in place from 6pm on Friday (July 2) to 6pm on Sunday (July 4).

A police spokesperson added that Section 35 dispersal order is a proactive and preventative way of dispersing people who are likely to commit crime or disorder or behave in an antisocial manner.

The parameters for the order – detailed on the town centre map above – are:

• North Street

• The Green

• Elford Street

• South Street

• Station Road

• Market Street

• Derby Road

• Bath Street

• Brook Street

• Hood Park

• Bath Grounds

It also includes the inner perimeter of Ashby.

Police closed Market Street off on Tuesday evening following England's win against Germany which saw a number of people spill over into the road.

Celebrating fans gathered as officers looked on and were goaded by some of the group.

Saturday's game is likely to attract a sizeable number of supporters to the town's pubs.

Inspector Rich Jackson, commander for the North West Leicestershire Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA), said: "The dispersal order means that officers can deal with antisocial behaviour or crime not only once incidents have occurred but when they are likely to.

"Children aged 16 or under can be taken to their home address or a place of safety and anyone moved on under the powers can be prohibited from going back there for a certain period of time.

"Anyone who refuses to comply with an order to leave will be committing an offence and could be arrested."
