Police closed the main Ashby Road through Moira last night (Thursday) to deal with "the welfare of a man on a bridge".

The route was closed for more than three and a half hours while police dealt with the incident.

Leicestershire Police posted on social media shortly after 10pm that drivers should find an alternative route.

But the man came down from the bridge just after 1pm.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police told Ashby Nub News: "A report was received concerning the welfare of a man on a bridge in Moira.

"The man came down shortly after 1am and was taken to a place of safety."

Police had warned motorists about the incident at around 10.20pm last night.

The post read: "Due to a police incident, Ashby Rd, Moira is closed in both directions between the roundabouts with Daybell Rd and Rawdon Road.

"Please find alternative routes and updates will follow."

They later followed that with: "01:42 | Ashby Rd has now re-opened. Many thanks for your patience."
