Groups in the Ashby area can now apply for funding to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.

Parish councils, community groups and schools are among those who can put themselves forwards for North West Leicestershire District Council's (NWLDC) King's Coronation Grant.

Grants of up to £250 are available to help groups organise Coronation related activities or events in their parish to commemorate the occasion on Saturday, May 6.

The deadline for applications is Thursday, April 6 and applicants will be informed of the outcome within four weeks.

Celebration packs are also available for groups not eligible for the grant, and will consist of environmentally friendly cups, plates, cutlery and Union Flag bunting. Requests can be made to [email protected]

Councillor Andrew Woodman, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at NWLDC, said: "The Coronation of King Charles III is something that we'll only get to experience once, and the occasion will be remembered for its historical importance in years to come.

"With help from groups, parish councils and schools, we hope that the King's Coronation Grant will support celebratory events that will leave a lasting-legacy in the district.

"If you're thinking of organising a street party or an event for the King's Coronation, and are eligible for the grant scheme, head to our website to submit an application."

Ashby de la Zouch Town Council has already announced a celebration to be held on May 7 at the Bath Grounds.
