The barn fire in Packington on Saturday night is believed to have been started deliberately according to Leicestershire Police.

Witnesses are being asked to come forward following the incident.

It happened at a farm, named locally as Hill Farm, in Spring Lane at around 9.20pm.

As a result of the fire - which police say was arson - both the barn and hay and straw were destroyed.

This has caused a significant financial loss to the farmer.

Detective Constable Ken Huddart, the investigating officer, said: "This kind of incident causes significant risk to the safety of the public and our colleagues of the fire service.

"We are keen to hear from anybody who saw any suspicious activity within Packington and the surrounding area during the evening."

Anyone with any information should contact 101 quoting crime number 20*534846.
