Coronavirus: Update On Cases Recorded In North West Leicestershire

North West Leicestershire has recorded 19 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours.

It brings the number of cases in the district to 590 - a rate per 100,000 population of 569.

However, that is the lowest rare across the county at present.

There have now been more than 8,000 confirmed coronavirus cases in Leicester, since the start of the pandemic.

The city added 97 new cases to its cumulative toll today, pushing it past the grim milestone.

Across Leicester and Leicestershire, 263 cases have been added to local tallies in the last 24 hour recording period.

Tolls updated this afternoon, shortly after a new local lockdown system was announced, showed that 166 of the cases were across the county.

For five days in a row, cases in the entirety of Leicestershire have risen by more than 200 – with 235 cases recorded in the city and county, 245on Saturday, 286 on Friday and 274 on Thursday.

Broken down to district and county level, Charnwood again saw the most positive test results adding 69 to its total.

Some 26 new cases have been reported in Blaby, a further 19 in North West Leicestershire and rolling tolls in both Oadby and Wigston and Hinckley and Bosworth have gone up by 17 cases each.

Harborough added 14 new cases while in Melton there were four.

The local cumulative (since the start of the pandemic) figures for Monday October 12 are:

•Leicester: 8,039 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 2,269

•Blaby: 1,031 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 1,015

•Charnwood: 1,711 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 920

•Harborough: 712 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 759

•Hinckley and Bosworth: 904 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 799

•Melton: 338 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 660

•North West Leicestershire: 590 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population 569

•Oadby and Wigston: 928 total cases. Rate per 100,000 population: 1,627

The Prime Minister this afternoon announced what the new three-tier system will look like in the House of Commons.

Shortly before, Leicester East MP Claudia Webbe, revealed that the city will be subject to tier 2 restrictions after being placed in the 'high' alert category.
