A Packington store has been recognised by the Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire for its work during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Daybreak Services received greetings card last week from Mike Kapur OBE, expressing his personal thanks and for being an inspiration to others.

Store owner Pete Swift admitted he was honoured to receive the message - but says he does not know who made the nomination.

"Someone did, it was a nice thing to do but I don't know who it was," he said.

'It's not just me, it's all of us in the shop and what we do at Daybreak Services.

"We've been going since March, we didn't close during lockdown - and we've kept people going with orders, stock coming though and just made sure the place was running.

"Somebody's obviously appreciated that and put in a nomination for that letter from the lieutenant which was very nice to get."

Pete made sure the shop stayed open during the pandemic but says safety precautions still had to be put in place.

He added: "We had to do that and comply with how many people allowed in the shop.

"We complied with all the laws and just kept going.

"It was hard work because of getting the stock in with the warehouses being empty.

"But with the second lockdown, we've been better prepared.

"The customers appreciated it and I appreciate there's been some recognition for it.

"We have three people here during the day and four at the weekend with youngsters - they were a godsend as they were off school and college and worked six days a week just to keep it going."

The store's delivery service was not only restricted to Packington - but the surrounding towns and villages.

Pete added: "We had more than 50 orders a week - and more during March and April when the virus first hit.

"We could've taken more on, but we couldn't cope with the extra deliveries in the end.

"We delivered to Ashby and Measham where people couldn't get out to the shops.

"There's a loyal customer base that's been built up over the years."
