North West Leicestershire Police arrest two men after Ashby drugs find

Two men were arrested after a drugs raid at an address in Ashby.

Leicestershire Police report that, on Wednesday, March 31, a warrant was executed at a property in Abbey Close, where a suspected cannabis grow was found.

A 26-year-old man and a 21-year-old man, both from Ashby, were arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

A small number of what are believed to be cannabis plants were recovered.

Although the incident was three weeks ago, Leicestershire Police released the information today (Tuesday).

It followed a week of action where search warrants were executed by officers in North-West Leicestershire under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

On Monday, March 29, a warrant was executed at a property in Swannington Road, Coalville.

A 52-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, both from Coalville, were arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis with intent to supply and a quantity of what is believed to be cannabis was recovered.

They have both been released under investigation.

On Thursday, April 1, a warrant was executed at a property in Melrose Road, Thringstone where a quantity of what is believed to be cannabis was recovered.

A 37-year-old woman, of Thringstone, was dealt with by out of court disposal.

Inspector Richard Jackson, Neighbourhood Policing Area Commander for North West Leicestershire, said: "We are working hard to bring down drug crime in the area and have worked closely with North West Leicestershire District Council and housing providers.

"Despite the Covid pandemic the local policing team have remained focused on responding to a number of community concerns and we have now executed 83 warrants over a 12 month period. This has had a significant positive impact on the local community.

"We urge everyone to contact us with any concerns about possible drug crime."
