A project which could create 3,400 jobs at a site near Ashby has been given the go-ahead.

Insider Media reports that detailed plans for the third phase of a major employment park just off the A42 have been approved.

The wider site will support up to 3,400 jobs when fully occupied.

IM Properties sought reserved matters approval for Unit 7 of Mercia Park, located at Junction 11 of the A42, at Stretton-en-le Field, close to Measham.

Unit 7 would comprise 47,000 sq ft of warehousing space, 4,000 sq ft of ancillary first floor office space, four dock loading doors and two-level access doors.

No specific end occupier has been identified for the unit.

A statement filed with North West Leicestershire District Council on behalf of the applicant said: "The proposals are of high-quality in terms of design and sustainability and are sympathetic to the other phases of the Mercia Park scheme and wider setting.

"In addition, the proposals accord with the relevant guidance and standards in respect of lighting design, parking and access design.

"Overall, there are no technical reasons that should preclude the granting of planning permission of the proposals."

An officer report added: "It is accepted that the reserved matters scheme would comply with the parameters for this part of the wider site as set out in the original hybrid planning permission."

The application has now been approved, subject to conditions.
