'New' Asda will have a familiar look when it relaunches later this month in Ashby as one of 110 openings
Asda is planning a 'new' convenience store in Ashby - but it may have a familiar look to it.
The nationwide supermarket group already has an an Asda on the Move outlet at the filling station on the Flagstaff Island service area near to the junction with the A42.
But the store, which launched over three years ago, will now be re-named Asda Express.
It is one of 110 new branches which will begin trading this month as Asda works towards reaching 1,000 UK stores.
While the convenience branches are smaller than its other supermarkets, they will stock up to 3,000 items.
This will include branded products, own-label foods and everything shoppers need to cook a quick dinner or lunch.
In Ashby, the new Asda Express store is wholly owned and run by Asda and due to open on February 23.
The £2.07billion acquisition of EG Group UK by Asda was first announced in May last year.
Andy Perry, Asda's Vice President of Convenience, said: "Asda's significant investment in building a nationwide chain of convenience stores is a key component of our long-term strategy to become the number two player in UK grocery.
"February is a transformational month for programme with a record number of store openings.
"The teams have worked at pace to reach this point and we look forward to bringing Asda's quality and low prices to many more communities across the UK."
