An Ashby man has been charged after a serious assault in Coalville left the victim with a fractured skull and bleed on the brain.

Leicestershire Police report that Max Shorthouse, 29, of Westfield Avenue, has been charged with Section 20 Grievous Bodily Harm.

He appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court yesterday (Monday, February 5) where he was remanded into custody to appear before Leicester Crown Court on Monday, March 25.

The charge relates to an incident in Needhams Walk on Sunday, January 28.

Two women, aged 35 and 40, were also arrested in connection with the incident and released on bail pending further enquiries.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said last month that between 2am and 2.30am on Sunday, January 28, a call was received from the East Midlands Ambulance Service stating a man in his 30s had been found unconscious in Needhams Walk.

He was taken to hospital, where it was established he had suffered a fractured skull and bleed on the brain.
