Ashby councillors have been informed that a new 150-space car park at the new Money Hill development should be completed by next April.

Bloor Homes and Taylor Wimpey submitted a revised application two months ago to construct the car park.

The blueprint is now with North West Leicestershire District Council planners.

This month's meeting of Ashby de la Zouch Town Council's planning committee was presented with documents outlining the progress being made with parking.

It read: "The agreement for the site requires the car park to be laid out prior to 12 months from commencement of development, or 100 dwellings, whichever is sooner.

"Development was commenced on April 24, 2023, and so the car park should be complete by April 24, 2024, under the terms of the S106 agreement, and will be offered to the District Council for operation.

"The application also included some minor changes to the car park layout, relocating spaces in the south-east corner due to engineering considerations."

However, councillors are still looking for confirmation a pathway from the car park to the town centre will also be built.

Cllr David Bigby said that, now money has been released, it was important to start dialogue with Leicestershire County Council and suggested that the wide verge at the top of North Street could be used as a two-way cycleway.

It was agreed that a meeting would be arranged with the County Council with, councillors Bigby, Thomas Stanley and John Coxon, to discuss plans for the footpath/cycleway.

The report also made it clear that works access from Nottingham Road to the building site was only allowed during the school holidays.

It added: "Works were undertaken for one week over the Easter holiday and will resume in the summer holiday, when access to Nottingham Road will be completed."
