Police have reported an increase in motorcycle thefts in the Ashby area - and warned owners to take steps to protect their vehicle.

North West Leicestershire Police posted a photo of a burnt-out motorbike that was found near Ravenstone.

But they have also emphasised this is a growing problem and that bikes are being targeted in and around Ashby.

The police posted: "On July 20, I sent out a post regarding a burnt-out stolen BMW motorcycle retrieved from the Ravenstone area.

"Since then, and over the two weeks, the Ashby area has seen an increase in motorbike thefts.

"Police are carrying out investigations in these thefts, but we need your help.

"Please increase your protection of your vehicle(s). Fit alarms, chains and an immobiliser. Anything you can to help us protect your property.

"If you can, park where there is CCTV, it may not prevent the bike being taken, but can help the police to build up a bigger picture of the suspects.

"We are here to help, but we need your assistance to do so.

"Together we are stronger. Together we can make a difference."
