When Lynne Murphy decided to open her own home studio spa, she hoped to create the perfect space to relax and switch off, without the stress of the salon with The Sanctuary Spa Studio

After being made redundant in the summer of 2024 from her job as a Medical Receptionist and Optical Dispenser, Lynne took the jump to retrain in massage and nails, going on to create her home studio in Swadlincote.

According to Lynne, 'I have always had a passion for nails, massage and beauty but the thought of going to large, high-street salons has always overwhelmed me as they are bustling and noisy. It leaves me stressed and leads to me coming out of there feeling more stressed than when I went in.

'The more I researched, the more I found out that I wasn't alone and that other women felt the same.'

With a now expanding business, Lynne is building her very own Sanctuary Spa in the peace of her garden.

She currently sees clients in a space in her own home on a fully 1-to-1 basis, enabling her to devote all her time to each client without having to watch the clock or rush through appointments.

The new custom space will include a main treatment and therapy room, accompanied by a smaller room called The Pod.

The Pod will be a space where clients can relax in comfort and be able to get changed before and after their treatment in the slippers and waffle robe provided. There will also be a coffee station and an odd treat from Lynne from time to time.

Speaking about her business, Lynne said: 'My favourite treatments I offer for my clients are, without doubt, my Holistic Massage Treatments as I really get a sense of joy when I see the difference in my clients before and afterwards. They can come in tense and stressed after a long day's work and then go home smiling.

'It really makes me realise that I've definitely made the right career choice.'

She also offers treatments such as Swedish Back and Body Massage, Indian Head Massage, Reflexology, Relaxing Facial Massages, Hot Stone Massage and Oriental Fusion Facial Lift along with Gua Sha Massage. Lynne is also a qualified Nail Technician and Reflexologist.

On the run up to Christmas Lynne is offering 10% off Hot Stone Massages when they are booked before Christmas, as well as gift vouchers, ideal for that person in your life who needs some 'Me-Time.'
