A 27-year-old Measham man has pleaded guilty to the murder of his grandfather.
Ben Dunlop, of Hart Drive, has appeared at Leicester Crown Court today (Monday, November) 7 and pleaded guilty to the murder of his grandfather, Ronald Dunlop.
Police were called to the address in Measham – which the two men shared – just before 5pm on Wednesday, December 1, last year by East Midlands Ambulance Service.
They were at the address following a call of concern about the welfare of the two men and worries Ben had harmed himself.
A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: "When we arrived at the address, Ronald was found dead.
"Dunlop returned to the address a short time later, shouting about what he had done.
"Dunlop was charged two days later, with murder.
"He was also charged with criminal damage in relation to the death of a cat. He pleaded guilty to this offence at a previous hearing."
Senior Investigating Officer for the case, Detective Chief Inspector Nicole Main from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: "The guilty plea has saved the necessity for a lengthy trial and I hope this now allows the family to move forwards in their grieving process following the shock of the loss of Ronald."
Dunlop will be sentenced at the same court on Friday, December 16.
