McDonald's in Appleby Magna will soon be introducing two new items to its menu - electric vehicle charging points.

North West Leicestershire District Council has given the go ahead for the charging stations to be installed in the car park at the fast food chain outlet.

McDonald's has a restaurant at the service area on the A42 just south of Measham.

And it will now been home to two charging points as the demand for electric vehicles steadily increases.

An application to the council's planning department said: "InstaVolt are proposing to install two rapid electric vehicle charging stations within the car park of McDonald's, Appleby Magna.

"Two existing parking spaces will become EV charging bays, along with associated equipment."

A council officer's report says that the plan fits in with the green aims for the future.

The report says: "The proposal relates to an existing premises and would not result in any additional comings and goings over and above that of the existing arrangement.

"The proposal would result in the installation of two rapid electric vehicle charging stations which would provide a more sustainable mode of transport with less environmental impacts, relative to petrol and diesel vehicles."
