If you are thinking of popping into the McDonald's at Flagstaff Services in Ashby for a walk-in takeaway - don't.

The fast food chain has announced that all its 1,300 restaurants across the country have been closed for walk-in takeaways.

But the chain will remain open for drive-through and delivery but customers will no longer be allowed inside stores to place orders, even if they are taking them out, following the announcement of the new national pandemic lockdown.

McDonald's says it has taken the step while it reviews and reassesses safety procedures.

The company says:

•Our restaurants across the UK & Ireland will be open for Drive Thru and McDelivery

•Click & Serve through the My McDonald's App will be available at our Drive Thru restaurants.

•Dine-in and Walk-in takeaway service will be temporarily closed in all restaurants from 11 p.m. tonight (5th January) while we review and verify any additional enhanced safety measures for these services

•With smaller teams and social distancing in the kitchen it will take longer to serve you
