Man Who Stole Charity Box From Ashby Shop Was Later Found To Be Carrying A Knife

Police arrested a man following the theft of a charity box from a shop Market Street in Ashby - and discovered he was also carrying a knife.

North West Leicestershire Police posted a photo of the knife which appeared to have a 12cm blade.

The man was stopped and searched on Friday around mid-morning.

A spokeswoman for Leicestershire Police told Ashby Nub News on Monday: "The charity box was stolen from a retail premises, not a charity shop.

"The man has since been released pending further enquiries."

The North West Leicestershire Police Facebook post read: "Neighbourhood officers PC Gregory and PCSO Tipper responded to the theft of a charity box in Ashby town.

"Upon locating the suspect and searching them, they were found in possession of a knife.

Suspect arrested. Enquiries are continuing  #InYourCommunity  #SaferNeighbourhoods  #LivesNotKnives"
