Leicestershire housebuilder David Wilson Homes has donated £250 to Ashby Foodbank to help its volunteers continue to help those in need during the Covid-19 crisis.

Based at Ashby Congregational Church, the foodbank's distribution was approximately 1.5 times higher in 2020 compared with the previous year and, in December alone, its volunteers delivered 4.1 tonnes of food to 88 families.

The donation from Coalville-based David Wilson Homes East Midlands was part of the leading developer's Community Fund scheme, in which a charity or community group receives a donation each month throughout the year.

Catherine Booton, part of the management team at Ashby Foodbank, said: "We will use the funding to continue to help those in need in our community by providing food parcels which contain three days' worth of food to those in economic crisis, either because of the current pandemic or due to other crises in their lives.

"It's good for local companies to help organisations in their areas who are involved in the community, and we are very grateful to all those who support us through cash and food donations.

"It's only through such generous donations we are able to do our work."

Ashby Foodbank started in May 2013 and has continued to provide a vital service for those in need in the town.

Now is as significant a time as any to help those living in poverty and David Wilson Homes' contribution towards Ashby Foodbank will help its volunteers continue to make a difference for many people in the area.

John Reddington, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said: "The volunteers at Ashby Foodbank have done a fantastic job for those in need within the local community and it's a privilege to contribute to their efforts.

"It's a difficult and challenging time for many people, as it has been since the very beginning of the pandemic, and it's our responsibility as a leading developer to support charities within the communities in which we build."
