Following the announcement of the date for the General Election, Amanda Hack, Labour parliamentary candidate for North West Leicestershire has set out her first steps for the area.

Labour says its campaign to win North West Leicestershire will centre on the plan to deliver a decade of national renewal following 14 years of decline under the Conservative Party.

The party adds that the issues to be addressed include:

·        Improving access to GPs and dentists and addressing NHS waiting times

·        Working with police and residents to tackle anti-social behaviour and return to neighbourhood policing

·        Making sure families have access to good schools and that children have opportunities to thrive in the community

·        Championing local businesses and growing industry to benefit communities

Amanda Hack said: "I'm delighted that Rishi Sunak has finally set the date for the General Election and I am thrilled to be the Labour candidate for North West Leicestershire.

"I moved to Leicestershire as a student and have lived here ever since.

"I have seen the damage that the Conservative party has done to this area and I know that Labour can transform it. I am determined to put the people of North West Leicestershire first because they have been neglected for too long. I know that this community deserves better than the past 14 years of Tory decline.

"People are rightfully worried about the cost of living, job security and public services that aren't fit for purpose. The Conservatives want you to 'stick with the plan' but their plan is not working and only Labour can be trusted to deliver the change this country needs.

"Over the next few weeks, I will set out my plans for North West Leicestershire. I am determined to end the chaos of the last 14 years and replace it with stability and prosperity.

"People in North West Leicestershire are ready for change and only a Labour government can deliver it."
