An investigation has been launched into a fire which broke out at the Hong Kong Restuarant in Measham yesterday (Thuesday).

Fire engines - from Ashby and Swadlincote - attended the blaze at lunchtime - with four in total needed.

Four appliances were called to the Hong Kong Restaurant in Measham.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service told Ashby Nub News: "At 12:26, we received several calls about a building on fire.

"Four of our appliances attended, and crews deployed breathing apparatus and a main jet to extinguish the fire.

"A fire investigation is to take place to determine the cause."

Police also attended the incident and the road was closed while the fire was extinguished.

Eye witness reports suggest that people were trapped in the building but that has not been confirmed by the Fire Service due to the investigation now being conducted.

It was reported that most of the upper floor windows were fire damaged in the blaze.
